One might expect that a buzzer would sound when a wrong answer is given, but that is not always the case. Here's how she responded: "I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other, but in my country, and in my family, I think that I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised." There was no buzzer of air horn to sound the disapproval. though the gasps and boos from the crowd might have been a tip-off. However, it was roundly discussed and agreed that this answer was the difference between being first runner-up and being crowned the New Miss USA. Does the fact that they asked the eventual winner, Miss North Carolina USA Kristen Dalton, who her favorite character on "The Andy Griffith Show" was make any real difference?
So, here's the deal: She is Miss California. California passed Proposition Eight. This changed the state Constitution to restrict the definition of marriage to opposite-sex couples and eliminated same-sex couples' right to marry. By mirroring this particular point of view, whether we agree with it or not, we have to acknowledge that it does in fact represent the current state of affairs in the Golden State. In this regard, there is no young woman perhaps better suited to represent California at the present time. She won't need to worry about being crowned Miss Politically Correct, since she maintains, "For me, it's about being biblically correct."
