"Never underestimate the people." That's what the head Cheeto says. He said it in front of a room full of people at the Conservative Political Action Conference last week. The "President" was there to speak to a herd of like-minded people who laughed and cheered and applauded, especially when he jabbed at his favorite windmill, "The Media."
You remember "The Media." They're the ones who report on those speeches. They record the words and take the pictures of the "President" as he goes about his day, doing the things he does, saying the things he says. It is their job. Some people might suggest that the world would be better off without the media doing that job. Then again, if "The Media" wasn't there to keep track of what the "President" was doing and saying, it would be a tree falling in a forest with nobody there to hear it. Except the people.
But wait. Last time I checked, "The Media" was made up of people too. Wolf Blitzer and Megyn Kelly and Matt Lauer and Jake Tapper and Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow are not synthetic beings, engineered specifically to impede progress through obfuscation. As far as I know. Full disclosure here: There is no way for me to confirm or deny that all the members of "The Media" are not replicants or pod generated plant folks who are bent on the destruction of our carbon-based life here on Planet Earth. I do know that a good friend of mine grew up playing catch with one of our local news anchors. This could all be part of some well-orchestrated conspiracy, designed to lull some of us or me specifically into some false sense of security.
Fake security.
That's what fake news will do for you. “And I want you all to know that we are fighting the fake news. It’s fake! Phony! Fake!” Trump said. “A few days ago, I called the fake news the enemy of the people and they are. They are the enemy of the people because they have no sources. They just make them up when there are none.” My source for that quote was the "President" himself. I read it on Al Gore's Internet from Yahoo News. Thank heavens that it wasn't the New York Times or CNN. They are the fakiest of fakers, after all. And compounding the confoundedness is the frustration the "President" is having with these jokers leaking confidential information from the FBI and members of his own administration. And who would trust them?
The people. And our robot overlords.
